The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) adoption of Globally Harmonized System for Hazard Communication (GHS) Rev. 7 is looming and 3E has you covered.

SDS Updates for GHS Revision 7 Simplified with 3E Generate and ERC+

Recently, 3E launched product updates for our key SDS Authoring software products, 3E Generate and 3E ERC+ Suite, to address OSHA GHS regulatory changes and help product stewards, authors, and customers alike start the process of amending their SDS and labels in plenty of time to comply with the amended OSHA standard.

This has been the recent hot topic after US OSHA amended its Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom) to align with GHS Rev. 7 and that amendment lends itself to new requirements and a lot of work to update new and existing documents. Deadlines are approaching :

  • January 2026 for substances
  • July 2027 for mixtures

“With 95% of SDS needing to be updated, we wanted to be very proactive in adding OSHA GHS Rev. 7 to our products to help Authors get ahead of required SDS updates. Our goal was to be one of the first to market with these product updates as there is a huge surge coming. Both large and small teams need early support to enable strategic impact analysis and planning.”

Louise Bernstein,
Managing Director, Product Stewardship

How 3E Generate and ERC+ Support SDS Compliance

  1. This GHS Rev. 7 product release for 3E Generate and 3E ERC+ provides features that save you time when making your required SDS updates. With a simple input of your substances and their toxicity characteristics, these tools automate the mathematical formulas that feed into your SDS.
  2. If you need assistance updating your SDS, consider outsourcing this work to 3E Authoring Services where a dedicated Authoring Manager on our team familiar with your industry and products will oversee your project and deliver required documents.

What is GHS Revision 7, and Why Does It Matter?

If you work in an industry that deals with hazardous chemicals, then you have probably heard of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). This internationally recognized system was created to standardize the classification and labeling of chemicals, making it easier for workers to understand potential hazards and take necessary precautions.

Recently, GHS underwent its seventh revision, known as GHS Rev. 7. This revision brings about significant changes to how hazardous substances and mixtures are classified and labeled, affecting both manufacturers and employers who handle these chemicals.

One major change is the addition of a new hazard category for chemically unstable gases. This means that more chemicals will now be classified as hazardous, requiring updated safety measures and procedures.

In addition to this new category, there are also changes to existing hazard classes and categories, such as revising the criteria for flammable liquids. This change will have an impact on how these substances are labeled and stored in the workplace.

Another important aspect of GHS Rev. 7 is the introduction of new precautionary statements and pictograms. These new symbols will provide more detailed information about potential hazards, helping workers to better understand the risks associated with handling certain chemicals.

It is crucial for both manufacturers and employers to stay updated on these changes and ensure that their chemical management processes are in compliance with GHS Rev. 7. This not only ensures the safety of workers, but it also helps to prevent costly fines and penalties for non-compliance.
